Callaway Gardens' TreeTop Adventures
A quest to test your love of nature, the Pine Mountain adventure features zip lines and other high-flying challenges at Callaway Resort and Gardens in Gilmer County. Over 3,000 feet long and 70 feet above the forest floor, experiences range from 44 to 700 feet long. Featuring five zip lines and 20 sections, the base Discovery Course highlights slot blog netting, ladders, discs, logs, wires and other suspended surfaces. The Lake Course features five zip lines, several over water, and four obstacle courses for a more adventurous option.
Pedal Through Gilmer County
Distinguished as “Georgia’s Mountain Biking Capital,” Gilmer County has more than 100 miles of single-track mountain biking trails. Single Tracks, an adventure biking website, named the Ellijay Bear Creek trail its third favorite mountain biking destination in Georgia. Other favored byways include Carter’s Lake Trail, a 5.6-mile roller coaster ride through the Ridgeway Recreation Center, and Stanley Gap, a 12-mile scenic route. The pathways are maintained year-round by the Ellijay Mountain Bike Association and its volunteers.

A nonprofit 501(c)(3) sanctuary home to more than 1,500 animals, Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove assists hundreds of wild creatures annually through the organization’s wildlife rehabilitation program. Enjoy a free self-guided tour to learn about each of the sanctuary’s animals or pay for an up-close and personal visit with the locale’s residential friends. Tickets start at $75 per attendee.
Tallulah Gorge State Park
Another adventurous outing, Tallulah Gorge State Park located in Tallulah Falls is a two-mile-long, 1,000-foot-deep quest. Hike the rim trails to glimpse stunning overlooks or obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor. A suspension bridge soaring 80 feet above the waterfalls and river boasts spectacular views, and a paved path ideal for strollers and bikers follows along a historic railroad bed. A challenging 10-mile biking trail is the ultimate test of agility and strength.
Tubing the 'Hooch in Helen
Set amongst the picturesque backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the city of Helen showcases plenty of fun activities for the whole family in the quaint Bavarian town. The Chattahoochee River, a famous cold-water mountain stream running through the community, attracts visitors year-round to Cool River Tubing or Helen Tubing. Sit back and relax amidst the canopy of North Georgia during a two- to three-hour trip down the river.
